Hey folks,

Welcome to this edition of Sweet Tooth Saturdays! Today's sweet of choice is the Mango! I must admit that I'm still a little on the fence about how I feel about this fruit. JJ and I had dinner out last Saturday and I had an amazing salad and one of the toppings was mango. I ate a few pieces of it and that was it because I wasn't over the moon about it. I've eaten mango only about once or twice before with the same result, but I am trying to get beyond it!

I am always telling people to open their minds and taste buds to new types of food in order to expand the palette. Sooo, I must take my own advice right? I used to be the same way about avocados and know I absolutely ADORE them, so the mango might be next! So, let's take a closer look at my frenemy and see what nutritional value the mango is packin'!

FUN FACT: Mangos are the most widely consumed fruit in the world!

Mangos are low in fat. They are saturated fat free, sodium free and cholesterol free. Mangos are high in vitamin A and also a good source of vitamin C.

You want to choose mangos that are slightly firm with a sweet aroma. Avoid those with sap on the skin.

Store them at room temperature for 1-2 days. Peeled and cut mangos should be kept refrigerated.

Below is a great sounding recipe for us to try from fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org!

Healthy Fruit Salad

Preparation Time: 15 minutes or less

1 mango
1 banana
1 cup strawberries
1 orange
¼ tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. lime juice
1 tsp of honey - I'm sure you could use a different sweetener if you don't want to use honey.

Slice the mango, banana, strawberries and oranges. Mix in a bowl with the chili powder, the lime juice and the honey. Serve chilled.

Serves: 2

So, have a sweet tooth saturday with the mango! I'm going to give it another try!
