TALK TO ME TUESDAYS- SEITAN

Hey folks,

Welcome to this edition of Talk To Me Tuesdays!  The question of the day is: "What is seitan?"

Seitan (say-tan)  is another meat substitute.  It is often referred to as wheat meat, wheat gluten or gluten.  It resembles meat when cooked and is high in protein.  Similar to tofu, seitan takes on the flavors from other foods so it is easy to use in many recipes. You can add seitan to stir-fries or fillings for tacos or burritos. You can purchase seitan already prepared or you can get it in a dry form as well which you can reconstitute and add your own seasonings.



I personally have only had seitan a few times while dining out some time ago.  This is not a product that I personally buy at the store, so I can't offer too much of my own guidance in use or preparation.  I do however, know many people that eat it frequently and enjoy it!  There are also many vegan recipes in cookbooks and on the web that use seitan in dishes where a meat substitute is needed.
