A Meatless Thanksgiving and a Healthy Holiday Season
Happy Monday to you! I can't believe we have already arrived at Thanksgiving week! Well, as usual, I wanted to point you to some meatless Thanksgiving ideas because it IS possible to have a wonderful and delicious holiday sans meat products!
If you think you are relegated to getting a Tofurky to have a vegan Thanksgiving, think again! There are plenty of other dishes you can prepare. I have been vegan for quite a while and I have never had Tofurky. I'm not knocking it because I've never tried it, but there are plenty of other options out there. VegNews sent out a wonderful Thanksgiving newsletter with quite a few enticing dishes! I also headed over their website and came across this feature with some recipes for sides. The herbed creamed collards are sounding very good to me! In the newsletter they also featured a Lentil and Mushroom Loaf with Savory Potato Filling that can take the place of turkey any day, you can find that recipe here.
So, as you can see there are plenty of dishes you can prepare for the holiday without missing a beat. When I'm back east with the family for the holidays, my vegan dishes are always a hit! I always say that at the end of the day, good food is good food period! I would also encourage you to not overdo it, vegan or not. It's easy to get caught up in the savory dishes and have just a little too much. So, I suggest that you enjoy thoughtfully and in moderation. The holiday season is also known to bring on stress. Focus your energy on being thankful and spending quality times with those you love. Stress is not good for the body and the holidays should be relaxing and fun!
