Recharge and Detox!


Hey folks!

Here I am!  Oh my goodness, I almost choked when I logged in and saw how long it's been since I've written!! Writing has certainly not been far from my mind, but it unfortunately had fallen lower on my priority list as I've been adjusting to life as a brand new personal trainer!  My days have been long and quite busy at the gym and add to that my other endeavors and it's been a lot to contend with! However, I will always somehow find my way back here to reach out and connect!


One thing that has been challenging for me as of late is taking care of myself in the midst of trying to take care of others.  I was starting to feel foggy and spent and not operating on the highest plane.  So, I had to do something about that!  My roomie had mentioned that she was embarking upon a mini cleanse (until June 23rd) to be exact where the focus of meals would only be fruits and veggies.  Yes, I know I already eat a lot of fruits and veggies, but I will be taking a break from tofu, tempeh, beans, protein bars, indulgent vegan meals etc. 

This sounded like EXACTLY what I needed to reset myself so I decided to jump right in with her.  I will allow myself to have organic gluten-free oats and sweet potatoes for some more carbs since I am still going be having pretty active and hectic days, but I may find I’m okay without it.  This morning I woke up and had no desire to have oats and so far I’ve been feeling very light and energetic all day and I’ve been up since 5:30 a.m. and training clients all morning.

My goal is to check in periodically here on the blog throughout to give updates on how it’s going.  Today so far I’ve had green juice that I made at home which consisted of coconut water, spinach, flaxseeds, banana, strawberries and mangoes.  I’ve also had one green apple, pink grapefruit and some organic dried apples (without the sugar and extra oil and additives- just straight dried apple).   Later on I will have a spinach salad with avocado as well as some sautéed kale with onion and sweet potato, organic grapes and perhaps a fruit bowl when I get home if I’m hungry.  Eating this way really does give my system a break from heavier foods and challenges me to be creative with the plethora of fruits and veggies that are available.  I plan to look up some recipes and see what creations I can come up with to keep it interesting and my taste buds guessing! 

I hope you are remembering to take care of yourself also.  We can’t be any good for others if we aren’t being the best to ourselves!  Do you take time to recharge and reboot?  If so, I'd love to hear your strategies in the comments!  Until next time!
